about
The origins of 'Courtney' came about when the melody popped into my head in a McDonald's drive-thru in October 2020 where I immediately sang the verse and chorus into my voice notes on my phone. Just to clarify, I was parked at the time and the person serving me in the drive-thru was pretty confused!
It's about a friend who would always invite his friend out in the before times when we could all hang out. Alas, after waiting all evening she never turned up. We began to think that she didn't exist and this became a running joke among us.
The song was written with a lot of creative input from my partner Sarah who also provided lovely backing vocals on the song and was recorded at home.
I am currently raising money through Movember with donations going towards mental health and suicide prevention services and all proceeds from the single will go towards that. You can find out more info from the link below.
Courtney arrives in the middle of the night
trying to find a way through the darkness
she's dressed to the nines
with a pair of wide eyes
I hope she doesn't ask where the spark went
But it's raining now and I wish it would stop
I can't feel your touch when you shut out the light
Come on Courtney
You're so real to me
Come on Courtney
You mean everything to me
I've been trying to hide
all the fear deep inside
on the tip of my tongue for a lifetime
but I can't face the truth, did I just conjure you?
when I wake up will you be there too?
But the radio's on and the sun's coming through
If you're not the one why should I make a move

Gaz, having finally got this in the CD player, what an absolute stunner of an album, a glorious document of the hardest year in history, emotions, tears, mass singalongs, “The Old Normal”, one of my absolute key songs of last year and, topping them all, “Rule”, Gaz does full tilt screaming metal and it’s f’ing glorious! Confused and amazed about the different styles and the overload of lyrics, after my first full album sitdown. Struggeling to find the cohesion, but it will do for now.
After a few listens..cd in hand too, starting to like it a lot. Anywhere i can find full lyrics?
